Karroubi wants Khamenei to rule on vote

TEHRAN: Defeated Iranian presidential candidate Mehdi Karroubi said on Sunday it should be up to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to rule on the results of the disputed presidential election. “I expect the Guardians Council to cancel the election, which evidently is full of irregularities and fraud,” he said, referrring to the election supervisory body which has ordered a partial recount of the June 12 vote. But he said since Khamenei had already decided to approve the election that returned President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to power and rule out any annulment, the council “should leave the burden of responsiblity on the leader.” By doing this, the 12-member council will avoid “downgrading its position in the eyes of the people.” afp
